J.CREW FALL 2013

It's almost the end of August, which means one thing: back-to-school shopping. Technically, this is my last year to actually go back-to-school shopping (unless I make good on my threat to my dad and decide to go to grad school for something random...), so I'm going big.

Loving these looks from J.Crew's new arrivals - stripes with printed pants, fancy chambray, graphic tees + graphic sweaters, and a pajama-inpsired top! I was going to do a round-up of everything I wanted....but it ended up being too many things. Whoops!  If you're headed back-to-school shopping like me (or like to pretend to), make sure you hit up J.Crew for some fall goodies!!

BLOG LOVE: MY MORNING ROUTINE

Breakfast is my favorite meal of the day.
Actually, to be technical, brunch is - it's got all the yumminess of breakfast foods but at a more reasonable hour. (Plus, mimosas are usually involved).  But even on those days of early class or work, I always eat breakfast. As much as I love sleep, I'd rather get up 20 minutes earlier to have time to sit and enjoy breakfast and take a moment to myself - drink some tea or OJ, eat some eggs or cereal, check my email, the news, etc.  It's my little routine, and without it I always feel like I'm starting the day off rushed and flustered.

So it's part celebrity voyeurism, part breakfast inspiration, part thank-god-other-people-like-their-morning-routines-as-much-as-i-do that make me enjoy Bon Appetite's MY MORNING ROUTINE feature so much.  They talk to famous people - everyone from models to singers to athletes - about their morning routines, and specifically their breakfasts.  So even if you don't have a AM ritual, you can read all about what others do - and maybe get inspired for a little morning routine of your own!

SOME GLOBAL NEWS

Big news, kiddos.

I'm writing this post from the comfort of LAX airport, getting ready to begin a day of travel that will end up with me, by myself, in Barcelona, Spain - for the next three months.  That's right, kids, I'm studying abroad.  For those of you unfamiliar with the concept, I'm living with a Spanish family and taking classes in Barcelona for the next semester, working on my Spanish skillz and tryna meet cute Spanish soccer (excuse me, fútbol) players.

To be honest, this is probably the biggest adventure I've ever taken in my life, and I'm torn between being really excited and wanting to throw up.  But mainly excited.  I'm excited to shop and travel and experience a new culture and eat yummy food and visit lots of museums and be a superstar international jetsetter.

I'll still be updating this blog with all the latest in fashion and lifestyle, though it might have a bit more of a European flair in the next couple of months, if ya know what I mean.  It'll take a bit of time to settle in and figure out my schedule and Internet access and all that jazz, but next time I post it'll be from España!

PENCIL IT IN

I'm majorly type-A - I like things organized, color-coded, and five minutes early.  Because of that, I've been using a planner for school work since about the 3rd grade.  While they've gotten progressively cuter and progressively more filled over the years, the feeling of starting a fresh one - literally, starting a new chapter in your life - always gets me.  Whether or not you're as anal as I am, here are some cute picks to start your 2013 in style!

26 October 2012

Sorry that there were a grand total of zero posts between Monday's THOUGHT FOR THE DAY and Friday's THINGS I PINNED AND LIKED.  I suck majorly.  But actually I'm just busybusybusy like a bee.  Next week is super big for me - two big midterms, my best friend's birthday, Halloween, and the huge 200-person event that I've been planning all fall and which I'm still not there yet on.  So you probably won't be hearing very much of me until November, but I'll try and pop in and say wassup and show you a pretty picture or two.
Until then, stay classy, San Diego.

ON THE RUN

ONE / TWO / THREE

Running around like a chicken with my head chopped off this week - school work, midterms, planning three events at once, and spending far too much time on Facebook and Pinterest really takes it out of a girl!   I only wish I looked this fabulous running around town!

BACK ON MY GRIND

ONE / TWO

Y'all, real talk right now: do you know how hard it is to function without a laptop?
Think about it for a second.  Yes, you can email on your phone, and do some basic googling, but that's about it.  An iPhone is no substitute for a laptop.  I had to go to the library to write a one-page reading response, just because I didn't have anything else to type it on.  It was super hard to check Facebook only on the app, which was like, totes the end of my social life (but actually just another procrastination method I no longer had access to).  No TV shows, no Pinterest, no blogging, no Google Docs (which actually is my life).  It was tough, y'all.  Real tough.
Luckily, as my boi Kanye West (and I'm sure a bunch of other people before him) said: "That (that that that) don't kill you, will only make you stronger".  The next line should have an addendum: that which doesn't kill you will make you stronger, but in the case of a broken laptop, it will also make you $300 poorer. Yikes!

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY

ONE & TWO.

Sorry I've been so MIA lately!  The first week of school is always a bit crazy, between starting classes and getting homework done and running last minute errands and seeing all your friends and having all your clubs and organizations start up again.  I feel like I haven't quite had the chance to catch my breath yet.  But like the quote above says, I've definitely been all there for every second of it.  Hopefully now that things are settling into a routine I'll be back here more often!

IN SESSION

Today was officially the start of my junior year of college.  Whoop whoop!

Things that have occurred since I last posted:
1. I moved into the sorority house (Sort of. There's still a few boxes to be moved and things to be hung up.  But I'm almost there).
2. I have gotten absolutely nothing done since I've moved into the house, because it's essentially living with 30 of your best friends and it's far too easy to get distracted.
3. Class started today and I haven't bought my books yet.
4. Copious amounts of cheap beer and liquor have been consumed in.
5. I've been to Target three times in this weekend alone.
6. There are so many little freshman running around and it makes me feel so OLD!
7. It's about 90 degrees and humid out and we have no AC, which means that I spend most of my time sitting in a bra in front of a box fan.
8. I'm back in one of my favorite towns with my favorite people!

Can't wait to get back into the swing of things for real, to settle into all my classes, and, of course, for football season to start!  And, you know, I wouldn't mind for it to get a few degrees cooler either.

ENDLESS SUMMER

ONE / TWO / THREE / FOUR / FIVE / SIX

I'm heading back to school today.  It seems so crazy that this summer is already over.  As much as I'm glad to head back east and see all my friends, I can't say I'm not going to miss the sunsets over the water and the sand between my toes.  Here's 'til next summer!

RADIO SILENCE

That's right, folks - it's exam week.  As of today (well, technically, as of yesterday) I will be locking myself in the library with a full day's supply of diet cokes, multiple colored markers, and a whole lot of flashcards and study guides.  After I make sure I don't fail out of college I'll be back and posting on the reg!  Wish me luck!

DERBY DAYS

This weekend is the annual Foxfield Races, a huge steeplechase event in Charlottesville, VA that's hugely popular with the college crowd.  It's a great excuse to pull out your preppiest sundress, slip into some Jack's, and wear a cute floppy sunhat to shade your shoulders from the sun (even better when it's monogrammed!).  Even though the weather forecast tomorrow isn't the best, it won't stop people from showing up in droves to enjoy some seersucker and mint juleps! (Or, you know, orange juice and cheap vodka in a plastic cup). As they say, if you go to Foxfield and see any horses, you're doing it wrong!

STACKED

Being a college student, I tend to drink my fair share of wine.  It may be cheap wine out of cheaper glasses - sometimes accompanied by Wheat Thins and cheap cheese - but the fact that it's wine makes the whole thing seem much more glamourous.  And let's face it, college and glamourous hardly ever go together.

So when I discovered STACKED wines over at A Piece of Toast, it was like fate. Individual servings all prepackaged?  That means no washing wineglasses, and it's perfect for drinking on porches or taking on picnics.  Plus, at only $15 for a stack of four, it most definitely fits into my college budget.  Absolutely genius! Not to mention, the company is based in my neck of the woods, so I've got to show a little hometown love!  They ship all across the country, but I fully plan on visiting one of the local stores that carries STACKED this summer and filling an extra suitcase to bring back to school with me in the fall.  Trust me - my friends will love me for it.

FANCY & FORMAL

So this weekend we had our sorority's big parents formal and I'm being completely honest when I say it was one of the best nights I've had in college so far.  My parents came all the way across the country for the weekend and Saturday night we drove out to a beautiful estate and had cocktails and dinner under a huge white tent.  Then, of course, the band came out and any hope of hair and makeup staying in place went out the window.  Luckily, wedges are super easy to dance in!  This is the outfit I wore (well, with a few caveats).
Caveat #1: My wedges were actually the Aldo knockoffs from a season or two ago, which I couldn't find online anymore.
Caveat #2: Let's be honest - we weren't drinking anything close to Moet.
We still had an absolutely fabulous time!
