A LITTLE BYRDIE TOLD ME

I'm assuming y'all have heard of a little site called Who, What, Wear. Anyway, after having a beauty spin-off with its own dedicated email for awhile now, just today they launched a whole new beauty-focused site called BYRDIE.  The site - and the daily email - has everything you ever wanted to know and more about the latest in hair, makeup, skin, etc. products and styles and things I don't even know about yet.  I highly recommend signing up for it, even if you're like me and don't even know how to work your curling iron, much less create perfect mermaid waves in less than ten minutes.

And even better, as I clicked though to the site today I saw their post on Carven's new perfume.  Remember this post about the weekend my parents and I visited Paris while I was abroad? And how I stopped into Colette and they had this lovely little perfume on display, in such a chic bottle and with such a florally, decidedly French scent that I picked it up as my Paris souvenir of choice?

Well, lo and behold, it was this same Carven perfume. So imagine my surprise when I was reading on Byrdie that it was going to be available this month. But wait! I thought. I bought this months ago.  Yes, I did - in Paris, where it was apparently launched before it was in the U.S.  

Sometimes I'm so cool it hurts.

Anyway, besides me being all Parisian and ahead of the times, this perfume is lovely and floral and light and girly and French, and I highly second Byrdie's recommendation. And even if you don't snatch it up now, definitely sign up for Byrdie's emails - how else will you discover you've been wearing a cool new French perfume before anyone else?

02. HIGHBROW SUMMER READS: a list complied by flavorwire of some good summer reads, both in quality and plot. can't wait to add some to my summer reading list!

03. LOEFFLER RANDALL'S PRE-FALL ACCESSORIES: beautifully crafted shoes and bags for all the cool cats out there. my favs are the lock clutch and the damaris platform sandal.

04. ONLINE TOOLS FOR AN ORGANIZED LIFE: laicie of one thousand threads' tips for online sites and apps to help keep your life O.T.O.T. (on time, on target). i'll be downloading some of these for sure!

05. WHAT, WHY, AND HOW TO STYLE HAIR: into the gloss kills it with this feature that demystfies the hair product aisle in sephora.  what's the difference between wax and pomade? which should you use? when should you use it? all that and some quirky illustrations to boot - a must bookmark.

I'm a huge fan of Bareminerals's Bare Escentuals mineral foundation.  I have pretty oily skin, so if I don't wear powder foundation things get ugly, and I like that it's so good for your skin and not too heavy.  They're currently doing a special collaboration with none other than Jonathan Adler, so you can get your foundation and matching brush in this groovy J.A. print! Considering I left my Bareminerals foundation in the locker room of my gym in Spain and am currently using some weird Spanish power foundation, I think a trip to Sephora is in order!

LESSONS OF A SORORITY HOUSE: THE PRICE OF BEAUTY

So one thing I've already gotten from sharing a bathroom with six other girls is that everyone has a different beauty and makeup routine.  It's been fun looking at the different products girls use and getting to test them out, and after just one weekend of straightening hair and spritzing perfume and batting eyelashes in front of the bathroom mirror, my shopping cart at Sephora had gotten a whole lot fuller.

ONE.  Moroccanoil.  Obvs a cult classic, but something that I never really considered investing in before until I tried my friend's.  It made all of our hair so soft and smooth, and is perfect for when you're not really styling it but need a little product to make it look good (i.e. everyday of my life).

TWO. Kiehl's Creme de Corps.  Disclosure: haven't actually tried this, but my friend Gracie's life goal is to have baby soft skin and she buys anything that might help her achieve that.  She got a sample of this once and absolutely loved it.  Unfortunately, when you go through body lotion at the rate I do, it's not the most financially savvy decision I could make....

THREE. Twistbands.  If you haven't heard of these yet, you've been living under a rock.  I've used them for over a year now and absolutely love them.  I've got super thick hair, and regular hair ties would sometimes snap when I tried to wind them around my ponytail.  These don't.  They also don't leave annoying creases in your hair.  They are also pretty. (My friend just got me a pack with the glittery one in it for my birthday this summer).  Also, all the girls here at school use them to keep their key fobs to their apartments/house on their wrist.  That way you never lose it!

FOUR. Mini Essie Nail Polish.  Obvs everyone loves Essie.  (Turquoise & Caicos was my go-to this summer).  My friend Mimi has a cute set of mini bottles that I've never seen before!  She got them at J. Crew, but Essie makes sets just for its own brand as well.  So cute and tiny!

HAIRCUT

Got my hair cut today before I head back to school!  It feels so light and clean and straight and pretty.  Which will, of course, last all of one day.
